An incredible nautical show in Barcelona

The America’s Cup is the most important event in sailing and is said to be the third-largest sporting event in terms of economic impact, after the Olympics and the World Cup.

In just 63 days, Barcelona will host the America’s Cup. The six main teams, who have been training intensely, are ready to compete from August 22nd 2024 to October 20TH 2024. We will also see youth teams in the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup and women in the first edition of the Puig Women’s America’s Cup, showcasing future sailing stars on a global stage.

Barcelona is preparing for an exceptional event, reminiscent of the magnificent organization of the 1992 Olympics. Thousands of volunteers, known as “Team B,” have joined to help and ensure everything runs smoothly. Port Vell will be filled with both historic and modern boats, creating an impressive visual spectacle.

For the public, this will be one of the most accessible events in America’s Cup history, as there will be perfect views along Barcelona’s waterfront, as well as two fan zones with giant screens, dining services, and spectator areas, which will be set up at Bogatell Beach and Plaça del Mar. The Official Race Village at Moll de la Fusta will have free entry, allowing spectators to interact with the sailors and enjoy the unique atmosphere.  Additionally, don’t miss the America’s Cup Experience, an exhibition dedicated to the history of the America’s Cup, located in front of the Aquarium.

With its art, culture, cuisine, and architecture, Barcelona promises a memorable regatta. The countdown to the 37th America’s Cup has begun, and excitement is at its peak. Don’t miss out: this first-class sporting event will be open to everyone.

Here are 10 essential things you need to know for this year:

1.High-Tech Boats: The 37th America’s Cup will be contested with the second generation of AC75s, ultra-fast monohulls that “fly” over the water using foils and reach speeds of over 54 knots (100 km/h). Each boat has a crew of eight.

 2. Tight Competition: This edition could be the most closely contested in history due to the strict design rules. The five Challengers (UK, Switzerland, Italy, USA, and France) will compete to face the Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand.

 3. Race Village: The Race Village at Moll de la Fusta will be the free entertainment hub with giant screens, interviews with sailors, and numerous dining options.

 4. Free Viewing: Spectators can watch the races from Barceloneta Beach, which offers free front-row seats.

 5. First Women’s Competition: The first edition of the Puig Women’s America’s Cup will be held in Barcelona, highlighting women in this prestigious event.

 6. Youth Competition: The UniCredit Youth America’s Cup will showcase the next generation of foiling stars.

 7. Massive Audience: This edition is expected to have the largest audience in history, with global coverage on TV and online, potentially reaching 1.5 billion people.

 8. Tourist Attraction: Barcelona, which receives nearly 13 million tourists a year, will offer an immersive experience with the America’s Cup, including the Race Village, superyachts, and the America’s Cup Experience at Port Vell.

 9. Hydrogen Innovation: Competitors will use hydrogen-powered support boats, promoting clean technology in the nautical sector.

 10. Local Commitment: Barcelona is dedicated to the event, with a successful volunteer program involving 2,300 people, reminiscent of the positive legacy of the 1992 Olympics.
